Advocacy Day

Wednesday, June 20th, join NCFA and the adoption community on Capitol Hill for Advocacy Day! You’re invited to take advantage of this free opportunity to engage with Members of Congress to share your adoption experiences and ask for their support on adoption-related legislation. Your voice can help shape the future of adoption for thousands of children and families across our nation and around the world.

Please note that advocacy day sign ups have closed at this time.  Additional individual meetings will not be scheduled, but please give us a call at 703-299-6633 to discuss joining an already scheduled  group.

Advocacy is for everyone! If you are not attending the National Adoption Conference, your voice matters! We hope you'll join us in DC for this important event. No experience is required! If you're new to advocacy, learn the basics with our Adoption Advocacy Toolkit.

As the day draws nearer, we’ll have more details for you, but here’s what you can expect:

  • Tuesday, June 19th, 8:00pm: "How to Talk to Congress"
An opportunity to gather together, hear from experts on congressional advocacy and key legislative issues regarding adoption. This training is mandatory for all Advocacy Day participants. You will not recieve your materials and meetings schedule if you do not attend this training. Training will be held at The Hotel at UMD.

  • Wednesday, June 20th, 9:00am – 2:00pm: Personal meetings scheduled
Each registered participant will be given a schedule of meetings on Capitol Hill. Based on registration, we will work to try and schedule meetings with Senators and Representatives from your state. You'll attend your Hill meetings with other advocates from your state!

As desired, local experts will be available to guide you to meetings and help you share your story.

Congress can be unpredictable! Therefore, it is important that you come the training session in order to understand the legislation that will be discussed on advocacy day and learn about talking to Congress. For reference, here is an overview of 2017's adoption-related legislation and NCFA's policy priorities
